City Artists at Work - Sparx City Hop weekend
September 15th 2012
Selected artists of City Artists At Work (CAAW), a collaboration of artists from the Quadrangle, Midtown Corridor, and St. Clair Superior art districts, will open their studios from 11am - 6pm on Saturday September 15, 2012.
A CAAW curated exhibit will be on view at the Plain Dealer coinciding with their Employee Exhibit.

City Artists At Work (CAAW), a collaboration of artists from the Quadrangle, Midtown Corridor, and St. Clair Superior art districts, is proud to announce our fourteenth anniversary. To celebrate, we're offering you a chance to witness the work of some of Cleveland's finest artists, and to create some memorable art of your own. Don't miss your chance to spend a weekend truly immersing yourself in art.

Fine Art Exhibition

Opening our three-day event is a must-see exhibition at Convivium33 Gallery—the former St. Josaphat Roman Catholic Church. The exhibit, which will remain on display through November 20th, features an eclectic collection of paintings, sculpture, photography, ceramics, and more from over 60 local artists.
The exhibition features opening night remarks from Cleveland Museum Of Art Associate Curator, Mark Cole.
Also enjoy live music, and refreshments provided by High Thai'd restaurant on Coventry.

From painting to mask making, printing and more, they're your opportunity to create you own art under the guiding eyes of highly acclaimed CAAW artists. All for a nominal fee.
An Introduction to Acrylic Painting Workshop
Saturday, October 29
11:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
The ArtCraft Building

Instructors: Wally Kaplan & Rita Schuenemann
Learn the essential skills needed to paint a Still Life subject on canvas using acrylic paints. Emphasis is placed on using brush strokes to build form and convey a sense of space, and to see and paint visual relationships.
Fee: $25
All supplies and a light lunch are included.
Class size limited to 12.

Clay Mask Workshop

Ceramic Studio and TerraVista Ceramic Studio
The mask has been around for centuries, used in all cultures for celebration, storytelling, and rituals. Experience first-hand the process of making this well-established art form from earthenware clay.

A Trio of Monotype Workshops
Noon – 4:30 p.m.
Sunday October 30
Heller Building
2218 Superior Avenue – 3rd Floor
Workshop I with Susan Squires
Noon until 1:30 p.m.
Using the Vandercook Press, students will experiment with monoprinting using watercolor and stencils on an acrylic plate.
Participants will create at least four prints which can be a final product or can be used in Workshop III to create a more finished statement.
Workshop II with Mindy Tousley
1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Primary focus is on printing by hand using acrylic paint on a variety of papers. Emphasis is placed on making textural papers, which can be cut apart and reassembled into a completed composition.
Workshop III – Collaborative Collage
Workshop with William Martin Jean, Mindy Tousley and Susan Squires
3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Using some of the prints created in the previous workshops, participants will create a larger finished work with addition of stamps and other textural material. The Trio of Workshops will have participants displaying their work in the hall gallery. Light refreshments and conversation to follow.
Fee: $50
All supplies are included.

Creative Card Design Workshop
Sunday, October 30
Noon - 1:30 p.m.

Instructor: William Martin Jean
Every year, for over 30 years, the artist has created 300 personalized holiday greetings that are cherished by the recipients. You will learn how to create a personalized design that your friends will be delighted to receive, as well. Each participant will create six unique cards to take home, complete with envelope.
Fee: $25
All materials are included.
Class size limited to 10 adults (18 or over)

The artists of City Artists at Work open their studios as part of the Sparx City Hop Saturday, September 10th, 2011 from 11am - 6 pm. Individual artist studios will be open on a building-by-building basis. Look for signs and flags outside buildings. Current participating buildings are Tower Press, the Heller Building, Art Craft and Zygote Press. Check back for updates.
