Artists Archives of the Western Reserve (AAWR) is pleased to partner with the Mansfield Art Center - City Artists at Work, City Artists at Rest: A Final Retrospective 1997 - 2018

This satellite exhibition will be held at the Mansfield Art Center

This exhibition, curated by current AAWR Executive Director, and former City Artists at Work (CAAW) Co-Chair, Mindy Tousley, will be the first in what is hoped will be a continuing partnership between AAWR and Mansfield. It brings together over eighty works, in a variety of mediums, by forty of the artists who were involved in the CAAW group over its twenty-year span. The show will also mark the official disbandment of CAAW.

September 20th 2014

Selected artists of City Artists At Work (CAAW), a collaboration of artists from the Quadrangle, Midtown Corridor, and St. Clair Superior art districts, will open their studios from 11am - 6pm on Saturday September 20, 2014.

In the Heller Building on 2218 Superior, 3rd floor: Ruth Bercaw, William Martin Jean, Gerry Kramer, Andrzej & Ala Siwkiewicz, Susan Squires and Mindy Tousley will have their studios open.

In the Artcraft Building on 2530 Superior: Paulette Archer, Bonnie Dolin Studio, Marilyn Farinacci Studio, Wally Kaplan, Baila Litton, Rita Schuenemann and Whitney Stained Glass Studio will have open studio.

In the Tower Press Building on 1900 Superior: Cine Hypo Films (Robert Banks), Michael Levy and Christopher Stofan will have open studio.

Artists Archives of the Western Reserve - announces a call for entries for The NEW NOW, September 9 – 29, 2014. This juried biannual exhibition is modeled after the Cleveland Museum of arts May show and hopes to attract the best talent in Northeast Ohio. Cash awards will be presented at the opening reception and a color catalog will be printed with photos of award winning work and a listing of all accepted entries. Get all the details.

An Introduction to Acrylic Painting Workshop

Learn the essential skills needed to paint a Still Life subject on canvas using acrylic paints. Emphasis is placed on using brush strokes to build form and convey a sense of space, and to see and paint visual relationships.

The mask has been around for centuries, used in all cultures for celebration, storytelling, and rituals. Experience first-hand the process of making this well-established art form from earthenware clay.

A Trio of Monotype Workshops
Noon – 4:30 p.m.

Workshop I with Susan Squires
Noon until 1:30 p.m.
Using the Vandercook Press, students will experiment with monoprinting using watercolor and stencils on an acrylic plate.
Participants will create at least four prints which can be a final product or can be used in Workshop III to create a more finished statement.

Workshop II with Mindy Tousley
1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Primary focus is on printing by hand using acrylic paint on a variety of papers. Emphasis is placed on making textural papers, which can be cut apart and reassembled into a completed composition.

Workshop III – Collaborative Collage
Workshop with William Martin Jean, Mindy Tousley and Susan Squires
3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Using some of the prints created in the previous workshops, participants will create a larger finished work with addition of stamps and other textural material. The Trio of Workshops will have participants displaying their work in the hall gallery. Light refreshments and conversation to follow.

Fee: $50

Creative Card Design Workshop

Every year, for over 30 years, the artist has created 300 personalized holiday greetings that are cherished by the recipients. You will learn how to create a personalized design that your friends will be delighted to receive, as well. Each participant will create six unique cards to take home, complete with envelope.
